Many patients ask me about the difference between a night guard and a TMD device. 

A night guard is a device that protects your teeth while grinding. Grinding without wearing a night guard can cause severe attrition of the teeth. Which means your natural tooth structure could be compromised or disappeared at certain level depends on the severity of your grinding habit. 

A TMD device is the device that treats the temporal mandibular joint disorder (TMD). We discussed about the symptoms and causes of TMD in our previous videos.Grinding could be a cause of TMD, however, it could a combination of many factors as well.

In this part 1 video, we discussed about the types, the materials, and the function of the night guard. 

In the part 2 video, we will discuss about the TMD device and how does it work to relax the muscle.
